Rimgen’s Il Tempo Gigante and Blodstrupmoen’s Boomerang Rapido meet for the first time in 50 years at Gatebil during the Oslo Motor Show!
Yes, you read that right! The two arch-rivals meet again – for the first time in 50 years! And this time we’re not talking about small-scale cars, but full-fledged 1:1 cars! Gatebil and TilhengerNor (who are working together) have been lucky enough to have Il Tempo Gigante on their stand at the Oslo Motor Show October 24-26 AND one of a total of between 12 and 15(!) produced McLaren M8Cs! The car that in the movie Flåklypa Grand Prix was used as Rudolf Blodstrupmoen’s Boomerang Rapido, of which there are only a handful of copies left in the world.

At the time of writing, the McLaren M8C is being foiled in “Boomerang Rapido colors” in Germany. With a lot of help from the Flåklypa enthusiast community in Norway, even the Snake Oil logo is 100% replicated. Incidentally, the car is a 100% racing car, which is still in use on tracks in Europe, classified under historic racing. The V8 engine with an impressive 880 horsepower and 1000NM was not commonplace in 1970, and still kicks ass by 2025 standards. Intended for the Can Am series, one of the toughest in racing, this is a thoroughbred racer. For the occasion, it’s wrapped in something as distinctively Norwegian as one of the main cars from the Flåklypa Grand Prix!
Blodstrupmoen’s fierce competitor – whom he eventually had to see himself beaten by, Reodor Felgen, was at the wheel of Il Tempo Gigante. It is also equipped with a V8 engine, a 7.4 liter 454 big block with 550 horsepower. So it’s no slouch in traffic either, to quote Felgen.

It is nothing short of historic that two of Norway’s most beloved movie cars will meet for the first (and perhaps last) time when Norway’s largest car exhibition is held in Lillestrøm. Both cars are fully operational – and Il Tempo Gigante will possibly start up during the weekend. Whether Nova Spectrum’s seismographs can withstand such tremors.
– “Time will show,” says Tommy, the trade fair’s general manager, when asked if this is possible.

Remo Caprino, who initiated the production of the Flåklypa Grand Prix, will also be present throughout the weekend to talk about the car, sell effects and sign autographs:
– It’s the first time Il Tempo Gigante is taking part in the Oslo Motor Show, so we’re really looking forward to it! The fact that we’re also at Gatebil, where we set a track record at Rudskogen this summer (see the movie further down the page) is of course very nice. The only thing I’m skeptical about is whether Felgen and Blodstrupmoen will avoid getting into an argument, as everyone knows they have a chequered history. chuckles the enthusiastic general manager of Caprino Filmsenter, who doesn’t hide the fact that it’s great that the two cars are finally standing side by side again.
The fact that the two are coming together in 2025 is special in many ways, but especially because both the movie Flåklypa Grand Prix and the car Il Tempo Gigante are celebrating their 50th anniversary! This has been duly noted, with everything from Flåklypa in Concert, 4D cinema screenings, a track record at Rudskogen Motorsenter and a number of activities. But for us car enthusiasts, it’s likely to peak on the weekend of October 24-26, when the film’s two four-wheeled stars meet – in real life!
Be sure to stop by Gatebil’s stand – where, in addition to the two aforementioned cars, you can see a Ferrari F40 and a super powerful extreme BMW, as well as buy a number of cool Gatebil effects and lots of Flåklypa merch!
