Where were you in 2002? The extreme storm Agda raged, there was a major earthquake in England, Robert Stoltenberg was named best male revue and comedy artist, the car magazine Autofil was established and Morten Abel was named Spelleman of the year.
There was also a lot of activity at Gatebil (almost) a quarter of a century ago. NRK profile and mom’s husband, Glenn Rodney Skog (actually Geir Schau), brought Tanya Hanssen, the most famous “centerfold” of the time, with him on a workshop visit. This was immortalized on film – and the Gatebil film was born. Available on the ultra-modern “DVD” format, as well as the more common “VHS”, this was revolutionary car entertainment. Many thousands of copies were printed and sold.
The film showed driving of a high standard, even today. Famous cars and profiles included Tommy Schønberg’s heavily tuned Audi R4R, Swedish Bjørck’s fabled Audi 80 UR-Quattro in an epic showdown with his compatriot, Hans Dahlback, and his badass VW Golf RS! Seasoned with everything from Leif Nilsen’s Audi S1 to Norway’s gnarliest classic Fords, Hondas, Porsches and lots of other gnarly things – on both two and four wheels. VI Menn’s scantily clad car wash competed for attention with the pickling competition and the public flocked to what was the start of Gatebil becoming something really big.
We invite you on a journey through time – which is really entertaining, whether you visited Gatebil at this time, or are interested in cars in general. Spin the movie!
