Competition rules and implementation
In 2024, Gatebil took a new step by focusing on individual drifting competitions during each Gatebil event instead of a series of consecutive competitions. This will also be the format in 2025, giving a wider range of drivers the opportunity to participate, even if they don’t attend all the festivals. Now, keen drivers can aim for the podium at each competition!
Gatebil Drift Battle is a spectacular drifting competition at a very high level, where only the best drivers are invited to participate. Drivers compete in intense duels, with both national and international participants vying for the top positions. In 2025, the races will take place at two well-known tracks: Vålerbanen Norway and Mantorp Park Sweden.
To ensure a fair start, the qualifying positions are drawn by lot, giving each participant an equal chance. Gatebil will determine whether the competition is run in a TOP 32 or TOP 16 format, depending on the size and scope of each event, making the competition dynamic and unpredictable.
The level of competition is extremely high, with drivers from all over the world vying for podium positions. Three judges carefully evaluate each round, analyzing the drivers’ skills and deciding who advances to the next level.
With professional drivers, varied locations and high standards of both driving and car appearance, the Gatebil Drift Battle is an event not to be missed. This is an experience full of adrenaline-filled action and unforgettable moments for the audience.
What is a Drift Battle?
Street Car Drift Battle is a spectacular drifting competition where two cars compete in pairs, also known as tandem drifting. The purpose of this competition is to demonstrate skills in controlled drifting. The judging criteria differ slightly from Solo Drifting:
– Leading car: The goal of the leading car is to execute a “perfect” solo drive, with outstanding control and precision.
– Following car: The following car should mimic the lines, angles and pace of the leading car, achieving maximum proximity without contact.
Participants
Gatebil Drift Battle 2025 is open to invited drivers only. All participants must have a valid drifting license and the vehicles must meet all safety requirements, including roll cages and other approved safety equipment as specified by the Norwegian Automobile Federation (NBF) or the Swedish Automobile Federation. This depends on which nationality you belong to. Technical checks are carried out on both vehicles and equipment before the start of the competition to ensure that all requirements are met.
More information on license requirements and vehicle specifications can be found: HERE and HERE.
